Octomore Scottish Barley 14.3 is an intensely peated single malt Scotch whisky from Islay, distilled by Bruichladdich. This expression, part of the hyper-peated 14th series, is crafted using 100% Islay-grown barley harvested from the Octomore farm. The use of local barley imparts a unique terroir-driven dimension to the spirit, complementing its massive phenolic content. Matured entirely for five years in a combination of first-fill ex-American whiskey barrels and second-fill wine casks, the 14.3 balances its smoky intensity with underlying complexity. Expect a profound rush of earthy peat smoke, coastal salinity, and bonfire embers, which gradually gives way to notes of sweet vanilla, fresh fruit, and toasted oak. This is a powerful, deep, and surprisingly nuanced dram for the serious peat enthusiast.
