Penfolds Bin 28 Kalimna Shiraz is a superb Australian Shiraz, first made in 1959, showcasing the warm-climate, multi-region blending philosophy pioneered by Penfolds. This wine is consistently sourced from South Australia’s premium vineyards, including the famed Kalimna block in the Barossa Valley, although the term "Kalimna" was later dropped from the label. Aged primarily in older, large-format oak barrels, Bin 28 emphasizes the pure, generous fruit character of Shiraz. Expect a deep, dark ruby color and a powerful nose of ripe black plum, blackberry, dark chocolate, and subtle mocha notes. The palate is full-bodied and intense, layered with sweet spice, licorice, and firm, integrated tannins, leading to a long, satisfying finish. This classic vintage Shiraz offers excellent aging potential but is also immensely rewarding when enjoyed young.
