Picon Bi??re Liqueur is a classic French *amer*???a bittersweet aperitif???that holds a cherished place in Northern France and Belgium, traditionally mixed with beer. Created in 1837 by Ga??tan Picon, this unique spirit is based on a distillation of orange peels, combined with extracts of gentian and cinchona bark, resulting in a complex, herbaceous profile. With a deep amber hue, it offers a distinct aroma of bitter orange, complemented by earthy spice and medicinal notes. The palate is a balanced interplay of vibrant citrus sweetness and a persistent, rooty bitterness. Historically enjoyed as a digestif, Picon's primary modern use is as the essential ingredient in a "Picon Bi??re," where a dash is added to pale lager for an elevated, refreshing, and slightly bitter drink. It is bottled at a moderate ABV, making it ideal for mixing.
