Ricard is the iconic French pastis, renowned worldwide for its authentic, refreshing anise flavor. Created in 1932 by Paul Ricard, this spirit is made using a unique blend of natural liquorice and aromatic herbs from Provence, with star anise being the dominant botanical. Bottled at 45% ABV, it is traditionally enjoyed as a long drink by adding five parts cold water to one part Ricard, which causes the liquid to instantly cloud or "louche"—a hallmark of quality pastis. This transformation releases the complex aromatic compounds, resulting in a vibrant, cooling, and herbaceous refreshment. Ricard offers a sophisticated balance of sweetness and spice, making it the perfect aperitif to enjoy on a warm day. Serve chilled with plenty of water and ice.
